This 4-day course covers test management topics in detail, including planning, risk-based testing, estimation, metrics, defect management, test process improvement and people skills.
This course is accredited by ISTQB and is based on the ISTQB Advanced Level Test Management Syllabus v3.0.
The course includes exercises and practice exam questions to highlight key aspects of the Syllabus, and to help participants understand and practice the concepts and methods presented.

To provide an understanding of Software Test Management issues beyond the ISTQB Foundation Level – giving participants the knowledge and skills required to understand Test Management at the Advanced Level.

Prerequisites
To take the actual exam ( ISTQB Advanced Software Test Management Certificate ) candidates must hold the ISTQB Foundation certificate. Note: There are no prerequisites for participating in the course without taking the exam.

Course Content
Managing the Test Activities
Explains how to define Test Management tasks according to the context of a project and how to adjust the test activities to the software lifecycle in use and the different test levels and test types. Risk-based testing for test prioritization and effort allocation is discussed with emphasis on product risk management. We will learn about choosing the appropriate test strategy to align with various aspects of the projects.
Participants will learn the generic steps for conducting a standard test process improvement initiative and how to create a test improvement plan, using software test process improvement models such as TMMi, TPI Next.
This chapter ends with learning how to utilize test tools to make testing more efficient, including good practices for introducing a tool, how to choose a tool and how to benefit from a tool through collecting metrics.
Managing the Product
Here the focus is on the ways testing is contributing to the product.
Participants learn how define metrics and use them to monitor, control and report the test progress and the product’s quality status. Test estimation activities and techniques are explained. Defect management is explained from the perspective of test management, defect management in different software development life-cycles, and ways to use defects information to improve the processes.
Managing the Team
Discusses how to assess the range of skills required for a software testing team, and define a growth plan for skill development. Includes team motivation and communication skills.
The Exam
The ISTQB Advanced Test Management Certificate is awarded to those who pass the 2-hour multiple choice exam, which is set, moderated, marked and invigilated by an ISTQB licensed Exam Provider. Candidates must score 65% or greater to pass the exam.
The exam may be taken during the course or at a later date. It can also be taken online.
